Seven decades of direct flights between Serbia and Italy

Air Serbia is marking 70 years since establishing direct routes between Belgrade and Rome, as well as Belgrade and Milan, which confirms the long-standing and strong ties between Serbia and Italy. 

From the initial flights of the former JAT to today’s Air Serbia, these routes signify more than just transport connections – they are the threads that bind cultures and economies, and significantly contribute to connecting the two countries.

For over 70 years, from 5 June 1956, we have served as a connection between Belgrade and Milan – cities of style, culture, and unforgettable encounters. Over time, this route has become an important link between two significant European hubs, and generations of travellers have chosen this specific flight, establishing contacts and sharing ideas and memories.

Belgrade and Rome have been directly connected for seven decades, since 15 June 1956. As the Eternal City and one of the most important historical centres in Europe, Rome is a significant point in Air Serbia’s network, with this route continuously offering passengers a chance to uncover the rich heritage and modern spirit of both cities.

Today, Air Serbia links Belgrade with a total of ten destinations in Italy: Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Bologna, Bari, Palermo, Catania, Alghero, and Naples, further strengthening its presence on the Italian market.

The airline continues to develop its network and improve the quality of its services, to strengthen the connection between Serbia and Italy in the years to come.
